E3 2006: Nintendo Press Confrence Overview Print E-mail
Tuesday, 09 May 2006
Nintendo's Press Confrence just ended, and Nintendo was definately the bearer of VERY good news this year! There's almost too much to talk about, but I'll do my best.

The focus was entirely on Wii and DS for the confrence, just the way we like it! Tons of Wii titles were revealed in video format, and Reggie announced that 27 Wii games would be playable on the show floor tomorrow, with even more available in video format. Among the games featured for wii were:

  • Golf
  • Spongebob
  • Piolotwings
  • Wii Sports
  • Wario Ware
  • Madden NFL 07
  • SD Gundam G Breaker
  • Tony Hawk's Downhill Jam
  • Rayman
  • Dragon Quest
  • Final Fantasty Crystal Chronicles
  • Fire Emblem
  • Hyper Sonic
  • Metroid Prime 3 Corruption
  • Super Mario Galaxy
  • Red Steel
  • Twilight Princess (Check my other news article for more info)

  • Also highlighted were three completely new games from Nintendo: Excite Truck, Project HAMMER, and Disaster: Day of Crisis.

The graphics on all of these games were very impressive, but even more impressive is the thought of how the controller will work with them!
Next, the localization people working on Zelda: Twilight Princess came on stage and showed off how Twilight Princess will work on Wii, which was absolutely amazing. This game looks like the best game ever created. Check my other news article for more on TP, though.

Mr. Iwata also came on stage and announced Wii Connect 24, the Wii's online service. This service will be constantly running on the Wii, even when the system is in its off/standby mode! The service will automatically download goodies to your games. Mr. Iwata used Animal Crossing examples to illustrate how this will work.

On the DS front, its current overwhelming success has been highlighted, and several new title from Nintendo were brought up. New Starfox, Diddy Kong Racing, Mario Vs Donkey Kong 2, Elite Beat Agents, Tony Hawk, Pokemon Mystery, and Yoshi's Island 2 will all be coming to the DS! Also previously announced for the DS were Final Fantasy 3 and Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles, among many other titles.

No exact word on Wii's pricing yet, but Reggie once again promised it would be much cheaper than competitors. It kind of has to be, doesn't it? Considering the 360 costs $400 and the PS3 costs $600. I wouldn't be surprised if it debuted for about $199.

    Wii: Playing = Believing
