Tips and Tricks

Bullseye!

Shooting targets more towards their centers will earn you 3 times as many points as if you shoot more towards the outside. Bullseyes on red targets are worth 30 instead of 10, and bullseyes on gold targets are worth 150 instead of 50.

The Multiplier is Key

For each consecutive hit you make in the game, your score multiplier goes up. If you miss or take damage, however, your multiplier resets to 0. Keeping that multiplier going is the key to getting very high scores. While you should of course try to hit as many targets as possible, if you think you're very likely to miss a particular shot, it might be worth it to not risk ending your multiplier.

Order Matters

When there are both red and gold targets on the screen, shoot the red ones first so that your multiplier will be higher for the gold ones.

Charged Shots

Fire once and hold the button to charge up a powerful exploding arrow. Use charged shots on swarms of enemies instead of trying to take each one out individually. Take note, however, that these shots take much longer to fly through the air than a normal shot.

Scarecrow Trick

In the target levels that take you on rails from one viewpoint to the next, you'll often times find a pumpkin-headed scarecrow mounted somewhere. Shoot the scarecrow's body to make his head grow larger. Do this 8 or more times. On the 8th hit, you'll hear a bell ring. At this point, shoot the pumpkin head to make it explode and the scarecrow will disappear into the ground. When you're taken to the next portion of the level, the scarecrow will pop up again. Repeat this process. Doing this for the second time will open up an alternate final section of the level in which there are huge numbers of red and gold targets to hit.

Falling Targets

In the Oocca level (5-1), each section of the level lasts for 20 seconds. When the whistle blows signaling the end of the current section of the level, the oocca on the screen drop any targets they are holding. If you can hit a falling red target, it is worth 300 points times your multiplier, and falling gold targets are worth 500 times your multiplier.

In order to take advantage of this, look at the clock, and when there are about 5 seconds left in the current section of the level, let the oocca fly onto the screen without shooting at their targets. This way there will be plenty of falling targets on the screen when that section of the level is over.

Shielded Stalfos and Ice Soldiers

Shielded Stalfos and Ice Soldiers can easily be killed in one shot if you aim at their head. However, if you instead aim at their body, they will block your shot several times, allowing you to up your multiplier even more on just one enemy. The Ice Soldiers will be killed after 4 hits to the body, but the Shielded Stalfos can take many more hits to the body, even after you destroy their shields.
