The second game in the Zelda series debuted in 1988 and was also a major success. However, the game strayed from the original Legend of Zelda's style of gameplay in favor of a much more RPG-intensive, sidescrolling adventure. Though the game is still incredibly fun to play, this change in gameplay style made it unpopular with some gamers. Despite being somewhat controversial, Adventure of Link was a landmark Zelda title. Its massive overworld, multiple city locations, dozens of villagers, and strong plot gave the world of Hyrule an incredible new depth.
