Tips and Tricks

Kill two mini-bosses easily

At some points in the game, you'll be faced with killing two mini-bosses at the same time. To save yourself time and hearts, just kill one of the mini-bosses and leave the room. When you re-enter the room, you'll find that the other mini-boss has now been killed as well. This trick should work with the Ghomas, as well as the Dodongo Snakes.

Flashing Egg Glitch

In the very first room of the Windfish's egg, equip the ocarina and play the mambo. As soon as the screen begins to fade out, hold down A, B, Start, and Select. Hold these buttons down until the save game menu appears. From this menu, select the "continue" option. After a few moments, the room will light up slightly, then begin to flash on and off. Strange!

Aimless Projectile Glitch

Equip the ocarina with any song other than the mambo and go to a screen in the game that has a pit/hole on it, as well as enemies who throw objects at you. Stand near a hole, and try to time things in such a way that as soon as an enemy throws an object at you, you fall into the hole right when you press the button for the ocarina (so that you fall while playing the ocarina). It may take some practice to get the timing on this just right. If you did it correctly, the object thrown at you will fly around the screen aimlessly while you fall down the hole.

Wind Fish's Egg Directions
Submitted by: Niroht

If you enter the Wind Fish's egg without the reading the book that tells you how to proceed through it, the maze will be left, left, up, right, right, up, left, up, every time you play the game, so you don't have to write down or remember another set of directions for every play through.

Secret Ending
Submitted by: Niroht

There is a secret ending, I have confirmed this. Play through the game and beat it without dying or stealing. When the credits end, a small addition will be included that differs depending on the system you're playing on. If you are playing the black and white version or DX on a normal Game Boy or Super Game Boy, a winged Marin sprite will be shown in the sky. If you're playing DX on a color game boy or GBA, a picture of Marin will be overlaid on the ocean and sky, fading to show a seagull flying above the ocean. In all systems and game versions, a message will then appear, saying that the game developers would like to thank you for playing the game.

Save Your Money

Immediately after making a large purchase from the store in Mabe Village (such as the shovel or bow and arrows), press a + b + start + select to pull up the save game menu while your rupee meter is depleting. Save and quit, then resume play of your save file. Your rupee meter will remain at whatever number it was at when you pulled up the save menu.

No Continues

To prevent your number of continues counter from increasing after losing all your hearts, press a + b + start + select to pull up the save game menu while Link's spinning death animation is still playing. From the save game menu, select "Save and Quit," and then continue play of your saved game file.
